FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 29, 2011

Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Cuauhtemoc Lucero-Alvarez, 39, of Mexico City, Mexico, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 78 months in prison for illegal re-entry by a previously deported alien.

Judge Crabb explained that she was imposing the 78-month sentence in light of Lucero-Alvarez's long history of criminal conduct during periods when he had entered the United States illegally. Lucero-Alvarez illegally entered the United States on four occasions and has been previously deported three times.

United States Attorney Vaudreuil stated that the charges followed an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of Homeland Security Investigations, and the Dane County Sheriff's Department. Prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O'Shea.
